Mama Brenda

My mother, Brenda Lee Eddy Van Otten, passed away on June 5, 2012 after fighting for eight months to overcome brain cancer. My family and I were able to share time together with her throughout the month of May, which I think Mom appreciated, and which we all needed. I photographed her resting on May 14 (her 24th wedding anniversary to my step-dad, Ron), surrounded by her Mother's Day flowers and cards. I wanted us to have this memory of her strength, and of our love for her. The three color photos are by Leo Patrone from Oct 2011.

My mother gave life to seven children! She loved her four step-children and sixteen grandchildren! I am amazed by her talents, her generosity, her courage and her faith. Thank you to all family and friends who are supporting my family and sharing their love and prayers.

I miss you, Mama. Among so many memories, I keep thinking of your vibrant smile. I will miss you until I see your beautiful face again and get to hold you in my arms.

Leilani ... we are so sorry to hear about your Mother and we hope that her passing was easy and peaceful for her and for those who supported her in her last hours. I think it is hard to say goodbye to someone we love and who has been such an important part of our lives. I think you will miss her alot through out your life. As a Mother I cannot begin to put words to the joy of having children and loving them ... and I really want to honour your Mother's mothering of you and all of her children, as imperfect as it may have been ... she has loved you and given you life and she lives on in you and as you prepare to become a Mother she will be with you in many ways as you pass on her legacy and love for you to your children. What a great joy and blessing for her to have her children with her for a time as she comes to the end of her life. She can pass through this life feeling the love of her family. I hope this is a healing time for you and a time of peace and reflection and I hope you feel supported and loved by those close to you, as you come to terms with life here without your Mother. We are thinking of you. love Pete & liz Cammock

It was so great to see you.I am so happy for you having a baby. When you have your baby your mom will be there. Trust me. Each one of my kids I felt so strongly my mom's presence and I know you will feel the same. It is amazing. Again, it was fun to see your beautiful face! Take care. ~Heather

Oh Leilani. I love you and have you and your sweet family in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Even though I only met Mama Brenda twice, I feel I know what a wonderful, thoughtful, and faithful woman she was because of the person you are. It's hard to feel consoled at a time when you've lost a loved one, but it brings peace to know that your mother will have a lovely time with your little one before he/she comes to join your family.
Thinking of you, Schatz.
